Summer is basically over. I’m done temping and need a new job. I have two semesters left of school. I’m sure both will kick my ass. I’ve been reading a ton this summer, but hardly making art. That will reverse once school starts.
I can’t wait to get back to art Ed and see all my friends. Even though most are in class the opposite days as me. ;p my new boyfriend is in art ed with me at Towson.
The beginning of the summer was crazy, but now it’s just peaceful. I go to Florida for a week on Saturday!
I’m really happy with everything right now. Especially with zac. :)
Ever since taking creative writing (writing fiction) with Michael downs (a FANTASTIC TEACHER) in spring 2010, I read books differently. I learned so much that semester about short stories and character development. Now when I read, I notice those things.
Books that have strong character development pull at me more than a mere good storyline.
It’s why I loved incendiary so much. I just read the nine lessons by Kevin Milne (he also wrote sweet misfortune which I read and loved last summer), and I loved it for the same reason, the wonderful character development. I read dust city by Robert Weston. The story was good, but the characters were not; I felt antsy while reading dust city.
Currently I am reading my 8th book for the summer— women on the verge of a nervous breakthrough— Ruth pennebaker. The characters are phenomenal, even 30 pages in. I love it already.
It’s interesting how much college courses have taught me and have changed my perspective on things— even reading! Maybe partly its getting older, too. I begun college at 18, and am now nearing 23. That makes a difference as well. I have had two different 2+ year relationships end in that time. I have recently begun another. I guess relationships are like another type of class you take in college, you struggle through some parts, breeze through some parts, sometimes they end on a good or bad note, but you never stop learning.
And this is my 1000th post to tumblr.
