First day teaching MY lesson all alone today!
The school I am at is actually an autistic cluster school, so a great number of the students have autism— from high functioning to non-functioning & everywhere in between. It’s really challenging, but an AMAZING learning experience. I’m learning such great classroom management! And if I can do this, I can teach almost anywhere. ;)
The entire second grade (though they love me) is REALLY rowdy and generally not well-behaved. Of course, this is the first grade I started teaching.
We are doing coil pots and today we mainly practiced rolling coils and working with the clay. A lot of the kids with special needs need a bit extra time to really grasp concepts, so today was really just a practice day. Coil pots are fairly difficult for 2nd graders anyway!
The lesson went WONDERFULLY! The kids were SO excited to work with clay! My mentor said she has NEVER seen this class this well-behaved before.
I feel like every day this gets easier. And though it’s a TON of work I adore it.
