The posts from these past few days were the results of going hiking over Spring break! It was a wonderful beginning to break, to be followed by tons and tons of reading!

Paper sculptures by Jen Stark

Really really cool. What a great inspiration for a lesson/unit! And this could be adapted to elementary or middle school! Even high school!

Just a quick 2 min sketch of Zac.

This is what the assembled third grade example looks like. Much better than the first one. This is why being an art teacher is such hard work! You have to constantly do these projects to figure out the best way for the kids to do them!
This is a strata landscape. Teaching 1- landscapes, 2- foreground, middle ground, background! It is also an oil pastel/tempera cake resist. The oil pastel is WONDERFUL with the tempera! Much better than crayon/watercolor!

More Eric Carle funky lizards! (Made by 1st graders.)

My 4th grade example— beginning to add oil pastel. I work on it with them so I am in the same stage they are!

5th grade is doing pop art printmaking! Main image is a styrofoam print plate (their breakfast trays at school!) and the border/frame is glue on cardboard. It’s been really fun so far- this week is printing! Should be great! :)

My coil pot example.
In the future, I would only have the students smooth the inside and draw their designs on the inside. Smoothing the outside mostly makes the coil pots lose their shape! Plus, students can just go ahead and paint the coil strips which can lead into a discussion on color, pattern, etc.
